La forma susciste < subsĭstĕre è quella maggiormente attestata nella lessicografia storica del genovese; ugualmente presente, e corretta, è la forma suscistî, con passaggio dalla terza alla quarta coniugazione.

1. Alternanza fra terza e quarta coniugazione

In genovese alcuni verbi possono presentarsi indifferentemente sia alla terza che alla quarta coniugazione, come co(n)strue [ku(ŋ)sˈtryːe] ~ co(n)struî [ku(ŋ)sˈtrɥiː] “costruire”, destrue [desˈtryːe] ~ destruî [desˈtrɥiː] “distruggere”, insciste [iŋˈʃiste] ~ inscistî [iŋʃisˈtiː] “insistere”, resciste [reˈʃiste] ~ rescistî [reʃisˈtiː] “resistere” o tradue [traˈdyːe] ~ traduî [traˈtrɥiː] “tradurre”. Le due forme, come è evidente, sono facilmente distinguibili anche dalla desinenza dell’infinito. Entrambe le forme sono in uso, valide e perfettamente sinonimiche.
